Rome, February 4, 2013 (MAP)

Minister delegate for foreign affairs Youssef Amrani called, on Monday in Rome, for an inclusive, transparent and consensual reform of the UN Security Council.

Speaking at an international conference on new approaches to the UNSC reform, Amrani said that, for Morocco, the reform of this UN body should take into account some basic parameters as the states? sovereign equality, the comprehensiveness of the reform, primacy of consensus, promotion of regional and international coherence, preservation of the UNSC efficiency and fair geographical representation.

The minister put stress on the complexity of inter-governmental negotiations which started in 2009, and reiterated the commitment of the Kingdom to reach a consensual solution that meets the expectations of the international community, according to an inclusive and realistic approach.

This conference, held at the initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brings together Ministers and Secretaries of State for Foreign Affairs of over 70 countries.
