Ronda Rousey: ?I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight?

UFC/Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared on Jim Rome's show on Wednesday. What does the champion use as her training secret? Does she have high-level training methods not available to amateur athletes and workout warriors?

Nope. She likes to have as much sex as possible before fights. Though Mick advised Rocky that women weaken the legs, Rousey believes it has the opposite effect on women.

"For girls it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight actually. Not with like everybody, I don't put out like a Craigslist ads or anything, but if I got a steady I'm going to be like, 'Yo, fight time's coming up,'" Rousey said.

She is not the first athlete to claim sex has benefits on the field of play. Elias Figueroa, a Chilean soccer player, said his coach advised him to have sex before important games. Argentinian soccer players were advised they could have sex during the World Cup, as long as it was with a regular partner and not accompanied by champagne.

There is little medical evidence that says sex has an effect, positive or negative, on an athletic performance.

"It certainly doesn't fatigue you in any particular way. So if we actually test your strength or your endurance the day after you've had sex, there's no effect," said Ian Shrier, a sport-medicine physician at the Jewish General Hospital at McGill University.

But if there is an exception, it's in combat sports like MMA. Maria Cristina Rodriguez Gutierrez, the director of sports medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, told CNN that sex can reduce aggression.

"For combat athletes like fighters or boxers, having sex before an important fight can reduce the aggressiveness and make them passive," although effects vary from person to person.

It clearly works for Rousey, who has steamrolled every opponent she has faced on her way to the championship and a 6-0 record. She's won every fight with a first-round submission, and she recently was named the first woman in the UFC. Though her opponent and the date for her first UFC fight are currently unknown, UFC president Dana White said her bout will be a main event on a pay-per-view.

Rousey is also a two-time Olympian, and she won a bronze medal for judo in 2008. It was a fight before the Beijing Olympics that made her think she could be successful in the cage.

"Yes. I got in a fight with a couple of guys at the end of 2007 in a movie theater. It was four couples so four guys and one girl tried to get into it. And I had two friends with me. But I was only really handling two guys by myself. They sued me for assault because it didn't really go too well for them. I guess if you lose a fight in Santa Monica the next option is to sue. Everyone in the theater was cheering for me. I was thinking I might have a future in this. It was before the whole MMA thing."

Ancient Antarctic microbes isolated for millennia may provide clues to alien life

The findings shed light on the extreme limits at which life can live not just on Earth, but possibly alien worlds, scientists added.

By Charles Q. Choi,?OurAmazingPlanet Contributor / November 27, 2012

This image shows a scanning electron micrograph of very small (about 0.2 micron) and numerous bacterial cells found inhabiting icy brine channels in Antarctica's Lake Vida, which lies in the Victoria Valley, one of the northernmost of the Antarctic dry valleys.

Beneath the icy surface of a buried Antarctic lake, in super-salty water devoid of light and oxygen that is also cold enough to freeze seawater, researchers have now discovered that a diverse community of bacteria has survived for millennia.

The findings shed light on the extreme limits at which life can live not just on Earth, but possibly?alien worlds, scientists added.

Researchers analyzed Lake Vida, which lies encapsulated within ice at least 60 feet (18 meters)?beneath Antarctica's surface. Past studies revealed the brine in the lake has been isolated from the surface for at least 2,800 years.

"That ice is so thick, nothing from the outside can get down to the water naturally,"researcher Peter Doran, an earth scientist at the University of Illinois at Chicago, said from a research outpost on Antarctica. [Strangest Places Where Life Is Found on Earth]

To examine the brine, the researchers used drills and heated pipes to delve downward. To avoid contaminating this isolated ecosystem, researchers set up a "clean room" on top of the hole, wearing the type of white suits used in electronics and germ labs to keep conditions as sterile and free of contamination as possible.

"Doing all this in the cold of Antarctica is pretty tough," Doran said.

Life finds a way

The brine ranges from yellow to orange in color due to iron-laced compounds within it. The investigators found the temperature of the water was about 8 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 13 degrees Celsius) ? its saltiness, about five to six times greater than average ocean water, keeps it from freezing like freshwater or seawater would. It is also completely depleted of oxygen and mildly acidic.

But despite the tough set of conditions, the researchers found the diverse and thriving community of microbes in the brine.

"What's most surprising is that there's anything living down there ? it's a pretty?harsh environment?for life to take hold," Doran told OurAmazingPlanet. "There's a mantra that goes, 'wherever on Earth you find water, you find life,' and this is another one of those examples."

The brine had very high levels of carbon-based compounds, the building blocks of life. It also possessed high levels of chemicals that generally react with each other, such as nitrous oxide and molecular hydrogen, suggesting they were being regularly replenished ? a surprising discovery, given how the lake was isolated for millennia from any obvious external sources of energy to help create them.

The overall chemistry of this brine suggests that chemical reactions between the water and the underlying sediment generated the reactive chemicals seen in the brine. The molecular hydrogen seen in the brine might serve as a fuel source to help support its microbial life, researchers added.

Alien implications

Similar habitats may exist on icy alien worlds, researchers said.

"By seeing what the boundaries of life are on Earth, that helps us when we go out and look for examples elsewhere," Doran said. "Years ago, we never would have thought to look for life in the sub-surface of Mars, and now we have examples on Earth that things can live down there."

Future research can explore Lake Vida's depth. "We'd like to collect samples of the bottom sediments down there, which can help us figure out this lake's history," Doran said. "When did it form? Was it always like this?"

Other teams of scientists are also?drilling into other buried Antarctic lakes?in search of signs of life that has been cut off from the world for millennia.

Doran, Alison Murray and their colleagues detailed their findings online Nov. 26 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Ignoring the Science on Mammograms - NYTimes.com

Last week The New England Journal of Medicine published a study with the potential to change both medical practice and public consciousness about mammograms.

Published on Thanksgiving Day, the research examined more than 30 years of United States health statistics to determine, through observation, if screening mammography has reduced breast cancer deaths. The researchers found that, as expected, the introduction of mammogram screening led to an increase in the number of breast cancers detected at an early stage.

But importantly, the number of cancers diagnosed at the advanced stage was essentially unchanged. If mammograms were really finding deadly cancers sooner (as suggested by the rise in early detection), then cases of advanced cancer should have been reduced in kind. But that didn?t happen. In other words, the researchers concluded, mammograms didn?t work.

This is a bold claim for an observational study. There are countless reasons why conclusions from such studies are commonly fraught with error. What if, for instance, the lion?s share of advanced cancers occurred among women without access to screening mammograms?a fact often not available in health statistics? Or what if mammography successfully prevented a major increase in advanced cancers, leaving the health statistics unchanged?

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, called experience ?delusive.? He recognized that uncontrolled observations may lead to faulty conclusions. For centuries the flawed logic of observational data seemed to validate bloodletting, an unhelpful and often harmful therapy. But most who were bled eventually improved?no thanks to the bloodletting?an observation that led medical authorities to believe in the practice.

Fortunately, we have learned something about bad logic. Today we seek studies designed to neutralize illusions. By enrolling people in a study and assigning them randomly to treatments, for instance, groups tend to be evenly balanced in every way except one: the treatment. Controlled studies led to the discovery that bloodletting is harmful rather than helpful, and randomized trials of screening mammography would therefore be a worthy gold standard to answer once and for all the question of whether the test saves lives.

It may be surprising, therefore, to learn that numerous trials of mammography have indeed randomly assigned nearly 600,000 women to undergo either regular mammography screening or no screening. The results of more than a decade of follow-up on such studies, published more than 10 years ago, show that women in the mammogram group were just as likely to die as women in the no-mammogram group. The women having mammograms were, however, more likely to be treated for cancer and have surgeries like a mastectomy. (Some of the studies include trials from Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and this major review of the data.)

In other words, mammograms increased diagnoses and surgeries, but didn?t save lives?exactly what the researchers behind last week?s observational study concluded.

It is affirming to see this newest study. But it raises an awkward question: why would a major medical journal publish an observational study about the effects of screening mammography years after randomized trials have answered the question? Perhaps it is because many doctors and patients continue to ignore the science on mammograms.

For years now, doctors like myself have known that screening mammography doesn?t save lives, or else saves so few that the harms far outweigh the benefits. Neither I nor my colleagues have a crystal ball, and we are not smarter than others who have looked at this issue. We simply read the results of the many mammography trials that have been conducted over the years. But the trial results were unpopular and did not fit with a broadly accepted ideology?early detection?which has, ironically, failed (ovarian, prostate cancer) as often as it has succeeded (cervical cancer, perhaps colon cancer).

More bluntly, the trial results threatened a mammogram economy, a marketplace sustained by invasive therapies to vanquish microscopic clumps of questionable threat, and by an endless parade of procedures and pictures to investigate the falsely positive results that more than half of women endure. And inexplicably, since the publication of these trial results challenging the value of screening mammograms, hundreds of millions of public dollars have been dedicated to ensuring mammogram access, and the test has become a war cry for cancer advocacy. Why? Because experience deludes: radiologists diagnose, surgeons cut, pathologists examine, oncologists treat, and women survive.

Medical authorities, physician and patient groups, and ?experts? everywhere ignore science, and instead repeat history. Wishful conviction over scientific rigor; delusion over truth; form over substance.

It is normally troubling to see an observational study posing questions asked and answered by higher science. But in this case the research may help society to emerge from a fog that has clouded not just the approach to data on screening mammography, but also the approach to health care in the United States. In a system drowning in costs, and at enormous expense, we have systematically ignored virtually identical data challenging the effectiveness of cardiac stents, robot surgeries, prostate cancer screening, back operations, countless prescription medicines, and more.

When Thomas Jefferson described his vision for the institution that would become the University of Virginia, he said:

This place will be based on the illimitable freedom of the human mind. For here we are not afraid to follow truth, wherever it may lead.

As we begin down the arduous path of health care reform, requisite to economic success, the question for policymakers and health care authorities is this: Are we ready to stop ignoring science? If so, the road may be smoother than we imagined for there is, and has been, much truth to follow.

Iran Urges China To Finish South Pars Phase

Iran's oil ministry has asked the Chinese National Petroleum Co. (CNPC) to develop phase 11 of the giant South Pars gas field in a 35-month period with a warning that, otherwise, domestic or foreign contractors would replace it.

The issue was raised yesterday in a meeting between Iran's oil minister Rostam Qassemi and top managers of the Chinese company in Tehran.

In 2009, Iran signed a $4.7 billion deal with CNPC to help develop phase 11 of South Pars that was meant to replace French company TOTAL because of the latter's repeated delays.

The South Pars gas field is shared by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share, which is divided into 24 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about 8% of the total world reserves.

Alcohol and automotive industries create the most engagement on ...

Posted on November 27, 2012, 4:05 pm.

From examiner.com

Social media networking platforms like Facebook are an important destination to reach new customers for practically any industry. In recent report released by Socialbakers, an analysis looked at pages with more than 10,000 Fans for the third quarter with Alcohol and Automotive related companies as the leaders for engagement on the site.

The amount of content generated daily on the largest social network has allowed each industry to tailor, package and tailor posts in a way that best reaches its clients. In the report, nine industries were closely examined from most to the least engaging. The following industries accounted for were: Alcohol, Automotive, FMCG, Finance, Electronics, Telco, Fashion and Retail.

To determine the success of a page on Facebook it depends on a large number of factors, but overall the quality in content is usually the best place to start. Inside Mark Zuckerberg?s social site there is an algorithm called EdgeRank, developed by Facebook and determines what stories appear in each user?s newsfeed, which looks at an essential Factor known as Affinity.

?The Affinity score is based on all the interactions a user can initiate, which is why it?s so important to reach a high Engagement Rate, a metric based on the three most important interactions on Facebook: Likes, Comments, and Shares,? according to Socialbakers.

Below is a list of the industries and their Average Post Engagement Rate:

  1. Alcohol 0.40 percent
  2. Automotive 0.39 percent
  3. FMCG 0.27 percent
  4. Airlines 0.26 percent
  5. Finance 0.19 percent
  6. Electronics 0.19 percent
  7. Telco 0.18 percent
  8. Fashion 0.15 percent
  9. Retail 0.14 percent

The more organic the posts are for the page and refrain from a hard sales pitch the better off you are. People?s interactions will be higher and extremely much more visible on a page if there is less of a focus on forcing people to adopt the product or service. You are more likely to attract more eyeballs to your company?s page if you create a unique dialogue with the information you put together on your social media space.

How did Automotive and Alcohol come out with a higher average engagement rate? In the blog post for the Social Media Analytics and Digital Company (Socialbakers) the excerpt pasted below can illustrate how the top two on the list increased their presence online:

?Both industries have the advantage of promoting their products with strong visuals, stories, and emotions without pushing a sale?s pitch. Both cars and alcohol are often associated with the different kinds of lifestyles that fans are proud to identify with since they can easily express their personality and individuality to their friends on Facebook.?

Alvidar Ingredients and A Review of the Product - Thyroid - EzineMark

?

A lot of people often visit different websites only to see if they can find some Alvidar reviews, because they are inquisitive if an underactive thyroid is becoming the reason of them having trouble in weight loss. There are a number of health problems that can stop you from achieving your goals of losing weight. It is absolutely possible for hypothyroidism to be among such issues. However, using just any supplement to hypothetically increase your thyroid activity is not only likely to have no effect on your body, but it can also be unsafe for your health.

If you read different Alvidar reviews, you'll find plenty of publicity about both the hazards and the occurrence of underactive thyroid hormones in population of the North America. You will also see a big list of "symptoms" associated with a thyroid gland that is low-functioning. If you go through the list, you will undoubtedly find some symptoms that you?d think apply to you. What does it mean? Do you think you have an ailing thyroid gland? No!

A lot of the symptoms from this list may also be associated with stress, sedentary lifestyle, fatigue, poor eating habits, nutritional deficiencies and so on. Simple blood work done by your doctor will immediately explain to you the real condition of your T4 and T3 thyroid hormones. Actually, this is what is recommended to anyone who is thinking about using any kind of natural thyroid booster before they actually start using the product.

Many may be curious to know if the Alvidar has any merit based on Alvidar ingredients and the benefits it offers as per the online reviews.

Well, regardless of what Alvidar reviews tell, there are no double-blind, peer-reviewed clinical researches that authenticate any of the company?s claims. However, their own studies and surveys claim a 93 percent rate of success.

The Alvidar ingredients list appears to be impressive, but it actually only comprises a few essentials that have obvious effect on the thyroid function ? bladder wrack and kelp. Both of these Alvidar ingredients are full of iodine, a vital element for several thyroid hormones. Both these components tend to distillate heavy metals, and may be toxic too for that reason.

More ingredients in small quantities include: garlic, saw palmetto, gentian, valerian, meadow sweet, St. John's Wort, cayenne, ginger, ginko biloba, echinacea, and ginseng. While some of the ingredients have healthy advantages, it is important for you to consult a specialist before you start using Alvidar or any other thyroid booster/fat burner.

Most Affordable Car Insurance: And the Winner Is

Despite losing the presidential election, Mitt Romney can still be proud of the affordable car insurance rates in his home state of of Massachusetts. As of 2011, Massachusetts held first place for the most affordable state when it comes to auto insurance.

States With Cheapest Car InsuranceInsWeb ranked all fifty states and Washington D.C. according to an affordability factor. The formula used was very simple, but fairly accurate in terms of determining how affordable local auto insurance is in the area. A state?s affordability factor is determined by dividing its median household car insurance rate by its median household income.

The median car insurance rate is determined by actual customer profiles that can include multiple drivers, multiple vehicles and other variables. The lower the factor, the less a typical family in that state tends to spend on car insurance relative to its budget. Therefore a family who makes $40,000 per year and spends $400 per year is ranked similarly to a family who makes $200,000 per year and spends $2000 per year. This method of ranking is the best determination of affordability in any given area.

Following Massachusetts is Hawaii, which earned the number 2 spot, moving up from number 7 in previous affordability rankings. Other states which earned spots in the top ten include Minnesota, North Carolina, Utah, Wisconsin, Iowa, Idaho, Ohio and Vermont.

While many consumers don?t have the option to move out of state simply to save on insurance, there are a number of things you can do to save money on car insurance, regardless of where you live.

1. If you have young drivers in your family, your bill will inevitably be higher, but those young drivers with good grades may qualify for a Good Student discount for maintaining a 3.0, or being on the honor roll or dean?s list.

2. Another discount offered for high-risk drivers is Driver?s Defensive/Safety Course discount. Typically, students and senior citizens can take a safety driving course which is available at many local government offices.

3. Take measures to keep your car safe which will reduce the chance of theft and vandalism while earning you a 20 to 25% discount off your insurance premiums.

4. Check for Affiliate Membership discount. Members of large groups such as Costco, AARP or AAA may qualify for this discount.
?
5. If you have been with your insurance company for many years, ask about any available valued customer discount which recognizes your long-term relationship with the company in the form of a lower rate.

Regardless of where you live, safe driving is important for much more than your insurance premiums. Staying accident free and ticket free is the best way to keep insurance rates low and keep your family safe. Bigger cities often carry higher insurance rates because there is more traffic on the roads which increases the likelihood of an accident. Use caution and defensive driving techniques when driving in cities, and stay alert and awake on highways to keep you and those around you safe on the roads. Never drink and drive and always keep cell phones out of reach whenever you?re in the driver?s seat.

Tips for an Effective Cover Letter

Cover letters, some believe that they are important by providing information that may not be effectively expressed through a resume while others see them as a waste of time with little or no benefit. This article is not to showcase the arguments of both sides when in all honesty it is up to each hiring manager. A cover letter should entice the hiring manager to look further into your application. It?s a way to persuade and engage. General rule of thumb: if one is required or asked for, provide one.

The question posed here ?how do you write an effective cover letter??

  1. Captivate with the first sentence.

Make sure your opening is geared toward the employer and position you are applying for.

Example? Your need for a PR Associate with publishing experience is an excellent match to my ?..

  1. Make a personal connection.

You can communicate more personally than you would on your resume. Use this space to tell a personal story portraying why you are the best candidate.

  1. Follow the ?Don?t?Overuse ?I? Rule?.

You may have heard this of this rule without understanding the reason behind it or this may be new to you. One of the biggest reasons for this is to avoid coming across as a ?know it all? and self-centered.

  1. Showcase your accomplishments.

One reason for a cover letter is for the company to learn how you will benefit their business. You want to let the employer know what attributes you can bring to the company. Overusing ?I? on a cover letter can actually lead to the opposite effect.

  1. There is no ?I? in ?TEAM?

Hiring managers want to know you are a team player. Don?t allow the cover letter to only showcase your accomplishments. This can easily come off the wrong way. Be sure to touch base on projects you?ve collaborated on or spearheaded.

For more tips on how to write an effective cover letter, click here.

Use your cover letter as a method of influence and persuasion. It must be unique, inviting, compelling in order to lead the hiring manger to review your resume and call you in for that interview.

Romney Merchandise Priced to Sell

What's a retailer to do with merchandise branded to support a failed presidential candidate? Put it on clearance.

ABC News' Jake Tapper snapped this photo of Romney gifts next to the Christmas decorations at Reagan National Airport Monday.

On the Internet, business owners are dropping prices to unload the Romney items as well.

The "America!" store, which has a location in Union Station and Reagan National Airport among others, had a clearance section of its online shopping full of Romney/Ryan memorabilia Monday morning. All of it was 75 percent off, putting Romney magnets and buttons below a dollar and a "Repeal & Replace" t-shirt, referencing the Republican plan to oust President Obama's health care law, for less than five bucks.

Wal-Mart's website offered a 35 percent discount on both Romney's books.

Artist-designed garment website CafePress makes merchandise on an as-ordered basis, so they don't have to worry about dumping an overload of Romney/Ryan products.

That's lucky for them, because sales for Romney products began declining in late October and had not caught up with Obama sales since. Throughout the election Obama and Romney were neck-and-neck on CafePress, but for most of November, Romney merchandise made up only between 10 and 30 percent of candidate-focused spending on the site.

The Romney campaign's website offered no great deals - with t-shirts still ranging from $20.12 (for a toddler) to $45 - but "for a limited time" pro-Romney holdouts could have their purchases shipped for free.

Polycom HDX Series ? Microphone (Clink2) Cable Pin-Out

Problem:

Client needs help with pin-out / wiring diagram for the Clink2 Crossover Cable to make their own version of p/n: (25 ft.) 2200-24009-001, (50 ft.) 2200-24008-001, (100 ft.) 2200-24010-001

Solution:

To build a custom Conference Link2 cable, use shielded CAT5e or better, and terminate both end connectors (P1 and P2) with standard 8P8C plugs (for example, RJ45) using the wiring connections shown below. The maximum length for this cable is 100 feet (30 m). Note that this cable provides a crossover connection between pins 1 and 2 and pins 5 and 6.

Note: HDX 6000, 7000, 8000 require the use of a Walta (M) to RJ45 (F) adapter (p/n: 2457-25646-001) on each end of this cable to connect from the HDX to the Polycom Microphone Pod.

?

The pin 3 connection straight-thru is VERY important (one could say critical) as it sets the ground reference for the clocking signals passed on the other signal pairs (1,2 and 5,6). Without it, the cable/system stops working at lengths greater than about 25 feet.

On Polycom-supplied cables, that pin-3 is also tied to the shield of the RJ45 connector? but it?s almost impossible to do that with the drain wire and not cause an intermittent short.? So field terminations can be with the drain wire connected to the metal shield of the RJ45 connector and an unused wire pair (perhaps blue/white?)?connected to pin-3 straight thru.

Ivory Coast's Foxtrot to invest nearly $1 bln to up gas output

GRAND BASSAM, Ivory Coast (Reuters) - Ivory Coast-based Foxtrot International, along with partners Gaz de France and state oil company Petroci, plans to invest around 500 billion CFA francs over five years to boost offshore gas production, Foxtrot's managing director said.

The West African nation, the world's top cocoa producer, is pushing for heavy investment in power production as part of a plan to spur economic development after a decade-long political crisis that ended in a brief war last year.

Foxtrot, which is partly owned by the French group Bouygues, operates on Ivory Coast's CI-27 bloc and currently has daily production capacity of between 110 and 120 million cubic feet of natural gas, more than half the national output.

"This capacity should increase to 140 million cubic feet from July, 1 2013 with a maximum of 154 million cubic feet per day that could be asked of us," Foxtrot's managing director Christian Sage told Reuters.

Ivory Coast aims to boost electricity output by around 80 percent over the next six years to satisfy growing domestic and regional power demand, the oil and energy minister said earlier this month.

It currently exports electricity to Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo and Mali and has plans to connect Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone to its grid as well.

"This is a series of investments that will guarantee the supply to the Vridi, Azito, Ciprel and other thermal power plants that could be built," Sage said.

Foxtrot currently operates six gas wells, and investments will go towards drilling seven new wells by the end of 2014. The company will also construct a new gas platform in its Marlin gas field, which is expected to go on-line in 2015.

The Marlin field will also produce around 7,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Hezbollah says it would hit Tel Aviv in future war

BEIRUT (AP) ? Lebanon's Hezbollah group would fire thousands of rockets into Israel in any future war and target cities in the country's heartland, the group's leader said Sunday.

Sheik Hassan Nasrallah's warning came days after an eight-day Israeli offensive against Gaza ended with a truce. Nasrallah said Gaza militants had won "a clear victory" against Israel with their rocket bombardment.

Hezbollah, like Hamas and other Gaza militant factions, maintains a rocket arsenal and regularly threatens to use it. It fought an inconclusive 34-day war with the Jewish state in 2006 that left 1,200 Lebanese and 160 Israelis dead.

The Gaza war marked the first use by Palestinian factions of a longer ranged Iranian-made rocket, the Fajr-5. It caused no casualties but did trigger air raid warnings in the heartland cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, which, unlike cities closer to the Lebanese and Gaza borders, have not experienced any sustained missile attack since Iraqi Scuds were fired in the 1991 Gulf War.

Hezbollah fired at least one long-range rocket ineffectually in the 2006 war. But Israeli intelligence now believes the militant group has the capability to strike anywhere in the country, although Israel now deploys air defense systems designed to counter the threat.

In the Gaza conflict, Israeli aircraft launched some 1,500 strikes on targets linked to the Palestinian territory's Hamas rulers and other groups, while Gaza militants fired roughly the same number of rockets into Israel.

Nasrallah said in a speech in Beirut that the Fajr-5 attacks "shook Israel." He asked: "How is it (Israel) going to stand thousands of rockets that will fall on Tel Aviv and other areas if it launches an aggression against Lebanon?"

Nasrallah spoke via a video link from a secret location to tens of thousands of supporters in Beirut who gathered to mark Ashoura, the annual Shiite commemoration of the 7th-century death of Imam Hussein, the Prophet Muhammad's grandson.

Hezbollah fired nearly 4,000 rockets at Israel during the 2006 war and is believed to have upgraded its arsenal since then. Nasrallah did not say how many missiles and rockets his group possesses, although in the past he said they have more than 20,000. Israel estimates the number at several times that.

"The battle with us is going to be all over occupied Palestine," the black-turbaned Nasrallah said. "From the border with Lebanon to the frontier with Jordan to the Red Sea."

"The Israelis should listen well to me. From Kiryat Shemona to Eilat," Nasrallah said referring to a northern Israeli town near the border with Lebanon to the southern resort town of Eilat on the Red Sea.

Since the 2006 war ended, both Israeli and Hezbollah officials have been warning each other that the next battle between the two groups will be more destructive.

Some Israeli generals had spoken of the "Dahiya doctrine," named after the Beirut suburbs considered a Hezbollah stronghold where Israel turned dozens of buildings to piles of debris in 2006.

In August, Nasrallah said Hezbollah will transform the lives of Israelis to "hell" if Israel attacks Lebanon, adding that the group would not hesitate to hit targets that would leave tens of thousands of Israelis dead.

Hezbollah was created in 1982, weeks after Israel invaded Lebanon. Israel withdrew in 2000 to a border drawn by the U.N., but Lebanon says Israel still occupies a slice of its territory.

Va. center aims to help US reclaim manufacturing

DISPUTANTA, Va. (AP) ? Tucked away just miles from the railroads that for years have transported goods made in Virginia to the rest of the world, a recently opened research facility in Prince George County is bringing together universities and industry in an effort to help the state ? and the country ? regain its manufacturing roots.

The work being done at the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing will be used for production that has come a long way from the textiles and furniture plants that once populated southwest and Southside Virginia. The targets now are jet engines, laser printer cartridges and military submarines.

"Most people's image of a manufacturing facility is one of a hot, dirty, undesirable environment in which to work. Historically that may have been the case, but in today's modern factory, that is in fact exactly the opposite of what it is," said Dave Lohr, executive director of the 62,000-square-foot facility, which features natural lighting, streamlined glass and metal with a sheen like that of the latest electronic gadgets.

With office space, meeting rooms, labs and a large, cavernous area to house and test the latest high-tech equipment, the center completed in September is conducting research for a group of manufacturing companies under a partnership with Virginia Tech, Virginia State University and the University of Virginia. The consortium supporting the center's research through equipment, funding and expertise includes Rolls-Royce, Cannon, Newport News Shipbuilding, Siemens and others.

Much of the research that will be done at CCAM focuses on surface engineering and advanced products and components, as well as manufacturing automation and simulation.

The center is currently involved in 10 projects valued at $1.7 million that includes both generic research that could apply to many of the 14 industry members, and direct research that addresses specific topics raised by one or more of the companies. Lohr said he hopes the center ultimately will be involved with between $10 and $15 million in research each year.

One of the first projects being conducted at the center looks at improving the technology used to coat surfaces with anti-heat or friction material using a robotic arm that can spray those coatings on metals. Another is studying human performance in manufacturing operations. As part of those research efforts, the center also will have a visualization lab that will allow engineers to do three-dimensional modeling.

CCAM is a "cornerstone of innovation" that "provides a place for researchers and industry partners to collaborate on the innovative technologies of tomorrow," said Will Powers, executive vice president and CFO of Rolls-Royce North America, which donated the land for the building on its Crosspointe campus, where it makes components for jet engines.

Construction of the building, which is owned by the University of Virginia Foundation, was financed with $11 million from state Recovery Act bonds, a $4 million federal grant and a $2.5 million grant from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.

Those involved say the center allows industry and universities to solve real problems and gives companies a low-risk environment in which to examine new ideas.

"The factory floor today isn't designed for experimentation, it's designed for efficient production. When you're interrupting that with experiments, then you disrupt the intended purpose of the factory," Lohr said. "Having an independent location where you can do research and do it at the same speed as you would at a factory, it takes that risk out of the equation."

Lohr said when you're making really expensive parts, "you don't want to send one to the lab and cut it up after you've invested all the money making it ? you want to sell it."

Similar public-private collaborations are taking place across the world.

In the U.S., BMW partnered with Clemson University in Greenville, S.C., for research that focuses on automotive technology, Lohr said. And President Barack Obama announced a $30 million federal investment in a manufacturing innovation institute in Youngstown, Ohio that will bring together manufacturing firms, universities, community colleges, and non-profit organizations from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

From a workforce standpoint, Barry Johnson, senior associate dean at the University of Virginia's School of Engineering and Applied Science, said the collaboration allows universities to better understand what types of jobs and skills needed in the advanced manufacturing workplace, ultimately putting the U.S. in a better position to attract factories that may have otherwise gone to areas overseas.

"Companies have the ability to put these businesses anywhere in the world, and they're going to put them where those factors are favorable to them," Johnson said. "We in the U.S., we can compete with China, we can compete with India, we can compete with other parts of the world that have low labor rates."

Lohr agrees.

"The opportunity to reclaim manufacturing as a viable industry in the United States is there for the taking, if you do it with advanced manufacturing processes," he said. "While it may not create jobs as you might have had in a classic factory, what it is creating is a very high-value job."

Time Management Is Essential for Internet Marketing | Online ...

Time management is impossible. I have tried, but no matter how much i willed it to stop. The second hand just kept moving.

So with only 24 hours in a day, and at this time no apparent way to stretch that to 25. You must find the ability to fit all of your tasks into the time allotted and find time to sleep.

As an internet marketer, the majority of your tasks will be done on the computer. With the world at your fingertips there are so many ways to become distracted. You tube alone can hold your attention for hours, and you won?t even know how much time has gone by.

You will need a little discipline if your going to effectively manage your time.

You already know what it is that gets your attention on the web. Your ability to manage your time comes down to how much discipline you have. Prioritize your tasks and do the important things first. As a marketer your goal is to make money. There are many different ways to market. Each one has a variety of tasks that need to get done in order for them to be successful. These are the things that will make you money, so do them first. There will be plenty of time for surfing after your done with the important things.

Don?t even think of opening that E mail

I know it?s the first thing you want to do when you log on to your computer, but don?t. You might be thinking, if i don?t open my e mail how will i know if the world ended while i slept. Just take a look out your window and see if the neighbor is outside mowing his lawn. If he?s there, the world didn?t end, and you can go to work. Internet marketers make a lot of friends online. Those friends are always e mailing you, and sending all of those cool hour long videos. You know the kind, where the guy gets out of his Ferrari. You walk with him into his mansion, and he tells you about his push button software that makes him millions. He starts by telling you ?i don?t know how you got this video, it?s going to change your life.? He is totally right, if you watch that video you will have wasted an hour of your valuable time. That?s the only change in your life that one of those videos brings. While that guy may not know how you got that video, i do. It was one or two of your friends that sent it to you so you will waste your time watching it and not be out there marketing, giving them more competition. So leave your e mail until you have accomplished something that is going to make you money.

Write it down

If you carry a pocket size notebook or even better is one of those notebooks that has the days and hours on each page. You can write down the tasks that need to be done or thoughts that you have about your business that you may not remember later. By pre-planning your days and weeks you keep yourself more organized and on task.

Multitask your way to success

The human brain is amazing. We have the ability to do more than one thing at a time and not short circuit. Pat the top of your head while you rub your belly. If you can do this then you have the ability to multitask. Of course if you can?t rub you belly and pat your head at the same time. You might still be able to multitask, but you might want to sit down while you do it. You know what your tasks are and if you can do more than one at a time. If it?s possible then do more than one thing at a time. Even listening do recordings while working on something will save you a little time.

The goal of a marketer is to make money. Only by doing the things that are required will you accomplish this. Don?t keep doing the things that waste your time. Prioritize your tasks and success will come much faster and with much less frustration.

Ivory Coast exiles in Ghana still support Gbagbo

ACCRA, Ghana (AP) ? The Ghana Refugee Board says that nearly 1,000 supporters of former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo currently live in Accra.

Many of the exiles are political leaders, former high-level officials in Gbagbo's government and ex-combatants who fought in Gbagbo's army and militia. Most fled to Ghana in the weeks after Gbagbo was arrested in April 2011. In Ghana they are known as "urban refugees" because they live outside refugee camps,

These Ivorian exiles maintain a media campaign via the Internet against current President Alassane Ouattara.

Ivory Coast analysts say the country's stability and reconciliation is threatened by the exiles' anti-Ouattara vitriol ? delivered in a steady stream of press statements, blog posts, tweets and newspaper articles.
