ACCRA, Ghana (AP) ? The Ghana Refugee Board says that nearly 1,000 supporters of former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo currently live in Accra.
Many of the exiles are political leaders, former high-level officials in Gbagbo's government and ex-combatants who fought in Gbagbo's army and militia. Most fled to Ghana in the weeks after Gbagbo was arrested in April 2011. In Ghana they are known as "urban refugees" because they live outside refugee camps,
These Ivorian exiles maintain a media campaign via the Internet against current President Alassane Ouattara.
Ivory Coast analysts say the country's stability and reconciliation is threatened by the exiles' anti-Ouattara vitriol ? delivered in a steady stream of press statements, blog posts, tweets and newspaper articles.
